If you look closely, OnePlus launched two smartphones every year with a base flagship model followed by an incremental update. After OnePlus 6T launched a few weeks ago, people have been anticipating the upcoming OnePlus 7 which is literally the moniker OnePlus would choose for its upcoming successor to OnePlus 6T. Well, a further report claimed that there will be at least two models in the queue to launch early next year and this day flags as the official leak for at least one of the device aka OnePlus 5G.
OnePlus 5G Leaks & Rumors
The latest leak has suggested an early prototype for OnePlus 5G which literally means that the upcoming OnePlus device will have a 5G support. According to the image posted by leakster Ishan Aggarwal, it showcases an ongoing internal development meeting. Amidst the meeting, you can clearly spot a OnePlus device on-screen followed by the same physical prototype on the desk and in the hands of Pete Lau, CEO of OnePlus.
The image is uncanny because you can spot a near bezel-less display with a circular rear camera setup protruding few millimeters out of the back panel. It is more like a Moto series of smartphone based on the prototype seen in the image, however, it is a developmental prototype and the design could change drastically upon arrival.
OnePlus clearly stated that it will launch a 5G-enabled flagship smartphone in early 2019 to compete with other brands like Samsung, Xiaomi, Huawei, etc. This particular move although will not make OnePlus 5G the first 5G smartphone but at least one of the firsts smartphones to sport a high-quality 5G network.
According to GSMArena, OnePlus might not have found a way to work out with mmWave 5G transmission and thus, it would support sub-6GHz frequency band to support its 5G connection which isn’t shocking since it had partnered with US mobile carrier T-Mobile during the launch of OnePlus 6T supporting sub-6GHz (non 5G) band. Well, OnePlus is in talks with other US giant Sprint and could merge to launch its next device somewhere in 2019.
Based on the earlier reports, OnePlus 5G will be launched in the UK with telecom carrier EE followed by other countries. The phone will be around $100 to $200 expensive than the usual 4G variants thanks to the newly added X50 modem and SDM855 SoC from Qualcomm that will definitely, raise the cost.
OnePlus 7 Leaks & Rumors
As aforementioned, OnePlus could launch two new smartphones back-to-back early next year where OnePlus 7 will likely get an April or May release date. A video render was recently posted on YouTube providing insight on how OnePlus 7 will look like when launched although this is a render posted by third-party and not an official render from the Chinese OEM so please take it with a pinch of salt.
The video render suggests that OnePlus 7 could opt for a bezel-less display (highly unlikely) with a sliding mechanism similar to Vivo Find X sporting the front dual-camera setup and other key sensors. On the back, the phone will feature a Huawei P20 Pro-esque triple camera setup protruding outside the back panel vertically.
Although not officially, we could expert OnePlus 7 to include a Snapdragon 855 SoC (highly likely) with 4G X24 modem (confirmed) along with 6/8/10GB RAM and a splendor internal storage and the most-acclaimed OxygenOS which is light as a feature and extends Android OS’ functionality to a great extent. Also, OnePlus is one of the very few OEMs to release frequent firmware updates. Take OnePlus 6 for instance, it has received at least 3 updates post-launch while OnePlus 6T has received at least 2.
So, here’s everything that is happening around the upcoming OnePlus 7 and the speculated OnePlus 5G which will be named likewise.
