Imagine a life without Instagram? Empty, isn’t it? Well, in an attempt to curb approval from the masses and to resolve people’s reaction towards a post where they would usually check out a point with higher ‘Likes’ count then those with lower count irrespective if the latter has a deeper meaning. Anyways, although Instagram isn’t removing the ‘Like’ button permanently, it is testing out a feature that would remove the ‘Likes’ count that everyone could see on a post.
To elaborate further, Jane Manchun Wong who is popular for her reverse engineering chops where she has unveiled a number of features on Instagram even before they were made official, found out the new feature lying amidst its source code.
According to her Twitter post, the feature will remove the ‘Likes’ counter disabling anyone from checking out how many likes a particular post has received. Note that they will be able to like the posts while on the other hand, the original poster who wrote the post will be able to check out how many likes they have received simply by tapping on the post and bingo.
Wong posted some of the photos along with her tweet which shows the feature in action where they posted an image, received 98 likes while no one else could detect the number of likes the post received. She was able to check out who liked the posts. Instagram said that the photo-sharing giant is testing out the feature so that users can focus on what they are and not how many likes they receive on their posts as the message pops up on the app.
When asked, Instagram said that they aren’t testing the feature but trying to figure out a way to reduce social media pressure that users feel when posting an image or video, etc and are concerned about how many likes and comments they get and so on.
Wong also found out that Instagram is testing out a new Lyric Stickers feature that would allow adding lyrics to song although the specifics remain undisclosed as of now.
