No doubt you might have heard about the design revamp that Apple is eyeing for its upcoming iPhones 2019 but I couldn’t resist exploring the design change. Apple launched iPhone XS, XS Max, and XR in 2018 based on iPhone X (2017) so rumors stated that Apple could stick to the same design till 2019 or 2020. But a recent development in the rumor mill has churned out that Apple could possibly tweak the designs for its upcoming iPhones 2019 with a triple-camera setup at the back and lot more to cherish for.
OnLeaks brought a video render to the surface where a 4K render for upcoming iPhone 2019 can be seen. It shows that the phone will get a glass-like finish while a triple-camera assembly at the back will protrude a few millimeters above the back panel. Yes, there will be triple cameras of which, two will be iPhone X-like sensors while the third will be a Time-of-Flight (ToF) 3D sensor that will be placed in the right but the middle of the two main sensors along with dual LED flash and a microphone.
A Bloomberg report quoted that Apple could be working on revolutionary photographing technology and there’s ToF that will change the way how we click photos and more. ToF camera uses laser pulses to shoot at the surrounding and calculates the time it takes for the light to return. This helps create a 3D map of the surrounding even when the user is in a dark room. This opens whole new opportunities in the tech world especially with AR and VR where Cupertino-based tech giant is known to invest heavily on AR.
Finally, this design is believed to be an Engineering Validation Test (EVT) staged model which means there could be plenty of changes that could materialize over the course of nine months that are remaining before Apple could launch the new iPhones 2019 in September this year. And why do we think it will be launched in September? Well, Apple has been consistent in terms of launching the phones in September for a few years now after moving from October few years ago. Thus, September makes sense for the upcoming launch too.
Apple iPhone 2019 price
A teardown of iPhone XS Max 256GB revealed that the total cost of components or bill of materials (BoM) was $443 while the in-store retail price for the same smartphone was $1243 which makes iPhones one of the most expensive smartphones. Well, now that reports speculate the existence of a ToF sensor, we could expect the price tag to shoot higher. Based on what rumors are suggested, the upcoming iPhone 2019 will be called ‘iPhone XI’ and there will be three models with one affordable iPhone XR successor and two high-end iPhones.
Apple takes a dip in sales figures
If you follow tech news closely, you’d know that Apple has already faced a 12% dip in sales just last December after the less-than-expected iPhone XS, XS Max, and XR sales. Also, after being in the second position in terms of total units shipped for months, Apple has plunged to the third position after Huawei outran its sales figures selling more than 200mn units in 2018. But Apple is known to outrun any sales figures with new smartphone releases and with the excitement of a complete design revamp and a ToF sensor, we could expect the company to outsell Huawei this year.
