After teasing the news around its upcoming truly wireless earphones a few weeks ago, Nothing has confirmed that it will launch its first-ever product dubbed as “ear (1)” on July 27.
Carl Pei, the co-founder of OnePlus, started Nothing last year in October. The company is backed by iPod inventor Tony Fadell, YouTuber Casey Naiestat, Twitch co-Founder Kevin Lin, and GV (Google Ventures). Nothing has partnered with Stockholm-based electronics manufacturer Teenage Engineering who is tasked with designing the Ear 1. In fact, Nothing even acquired Essential (smartphone brand) that was founded by Android maker Andy Rubin.
No specifics are known about the upcoming TWS from Nothing although the company has stated that it will be a combination of refined functionality, iconic form, and transparency where the latter plays a vital role and a unique selling point.
TWS earbuds have gained a lot of traction these days and especially those lying in the low and mid-price segments. In fact, it is stated that the TWS market is expected to gove by 33 percent YoY in 2021 reaching 310 million units by the end of the year. Thus, it becomes imperative that Nothing considers pricing its upcoming TWS in these price segments for a competitive sale once launched.
Nothing has partnered with Flipkart so the Ear (1) will be available on Flipkart probably exclusively. The company has even roped in Manu Sharma (Samsung executive) to head as its Indian market chief.
The Nothing ear (1) is scheduled to arrive on July 27 at 14:00 BST which is 18:30 IST and that’s a Tuesday. We still have almost a month to know the specifications and pricing related to Nothing ear (1) so let’s hope to get more details as the launch date approaches.
