Oppo is busy with its mid-range Reno5 series expected to arrive soon. But it is not the only thing on Oppo’s plate at the moment. Oppo’s next lineup of flagship devices is due given the fact that its last series was Find X2 and X2 Pro. Cut to now, Oppo is probably working on a flagship phone with a surprisingly new chipset – Snapdragon 888.
Never heard of it? Qualcomm held a tech summit on December 1 where it unleashed the beast i.e. Qualcomm Snapdragon 875 which is a successor to Snapdragon 865 (duh). There was another chipset that made a blast at the event and that is Snapdragon 888. Oppo Find X3 and Find X3 Pro is likely getting the Snapdragon 888.
Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 Unleashed
We aren’t aware of exactly what specifications the Oppo Find X2 series will arrive with and neither do we know about the CPU mounted on Snapdragon 888. According to Qualcomm, the Snapdragon 888 sports a beefed-up Adreno GPU that targets 144fps for gaming with updateable GPU drivers.
The Spectra ISP mounted on the new chipset offers 35 percent faster performance, yanking it up to 2.7 gigapixels per second which is roughly 120 photos at 12MP. This will allow it to have upgraded machine learning and computational photography in place which is something Google Pixels is widely known for.
The Snapdragon 888 is built on a completely re-engineered Hexagon processor producing 26 TOPS which is more than double that Apple M1 produces at 11 TOPS and even more powerful than Snapdragon 865 which delivers 15 TOPS.
Apart from that, the new chipset will have an upgraded third-gen Snapdragon X60 5G modem to deliver exceptional 5G support in both sub-6 and mmWave bands across the globe. It will use Dynamic Spectrum Sharing, carrier aggregation, and all other technologies that make it a top-notched 5G smartphone, to begin with. Additionally, the model also supports Wi-Fi 6E which is a step ahead of Wi-Fi 6 and it supports Bluetooth v5.2 as well.
Smartphone brands like Realme, Xiaomi, OnePlus, Meizu, Nubia, Oppo, ZTE, Vivo, Asus, Black Shark, Sharp, and Motorola have already seen the chipset internally. Perhaps, Xiaomi Mi 11 is expected to become the first chipset to get Snapdragon 888 SoC on-board. Stay tuned on TechTantrum to know more updates.
