2023 became the year when Generative AI rose to popularity especially thanks to the tools such as DALL-E and ChatGPT. Flagship cadre MediaTek Dimensity 9300, Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 and Exynos 2400 SoCs have on-device AI processing capabilities as well that’ll help OEMs leverage AI functionalities on their devices. Samsung too has promised generative AI onbd the Samsung Galaxy S24 series due to arrive early next year following by other Galaxy phones. However, a new tip suggests Samsung’s generative AI won’t be free to use though. Read along to know more.
Samsung Galaxy S24 series Generative AI won’t be free to use
According to the tipster Revegnus (@Tech_Reve), the Samsung Galaxy S24 series will have on-device AI features, however, it will be a ‘subscription’ service.
All the flagship chipsets have AI capabilities, however, there’s no official information on whether smartphone makers will offer AI capabilities free of cost or charge for it. The new tip has left tech enthusiasts baffled as a subscription model may cut back on the number of users availing the AI services.
Samsung is en-route to offer generative AI starting with the Galaxy S24 series followed by other Galaxy phones. Charging for a cloud-based AI functionality such as ChatGPT makes sense, however, paying for on-device AI functionalities is a bit confusing at the moment. Of course, one can say on-device processing is more secure as everything happens locally on your device and not on some foreign server millions of miles away.
It remains to be seen if Samsung’s supposed decision to offer generative AI as a subscription rather than making it free to use will have any blowback or rather it will be received well. The South Korean giant is highly speculated to launch the Samsung Galaxy S24 series on January 17th, 2024, as per credible although all we can do is to cross our fingers and wait for official confirmation.
