2020 iPhones are a hot stack that media houses are discussing right now even though we are still almost a year away from its September 2020 release. This hasn’t stopped analysts and leaksters from disclosing something new where some specs are often true while some are just speculations. Talking about the 2020 iPhone leaks, we have a lead thanks to Barclays analyst about the 2020 iPhone features and more.
2020 iPhone 5G
It is well-known that Apple might introduce 2020 iPhones with 5G as expressed earlier although let’s take it with a pinch of salt. The United States and a few other countries are still dabbling with the latest network (5G) which requires a huge infrastructure to handle it. With a few pockets of a few selected cities in the United States already engaged to 5G, T-Mobile is about to introduce an upscaled 5G coverage across the United States on December 6th.
T-Mobile is confident that Apple will introduce 2020 iPhone 5G handsets by the end of next year that will enable it to boost 5G further. Although the Phone Arena report suggests that 5G iPhones will be compatible with both mmWave and sub-6GHz spectrum of 5G, it remains a question whether the 2020 iPhone will support both or either one of the networks.
Apple will integrate Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X55 5G modem that should give 2020 iPhones their 5G capabilities along with a faster A14 Bionic SoC that will be manufactured by TSMC on a 5nm node. Manufacturing chipsets on a lower process allow chipmakers to introduce a large number of transistors on a small chip thus, exponentially increasing its performance while taking it way beyond its predecessor’s power efficiency.
Apple iPhone 12 Pro Rumors: 3D ToF sensors, 6GB RAM
There are plenty of iPhone 12 Pro rumors and iPhone 12 Pro Max rumors out there so we have clubbed it together based on reports from both Barclays and the reputed analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.
According to a Barclays research note, both iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max will get 6GB of RAM which is a 50% hike from what last year’s iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max sported (4GB). Apart from that, the trio to be announced next year will have Apple A14 Bionic chipset that we have already discussed above. According to Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the 2020 iPhones will sport rear-mounted 3D mapping sensors that will be using the Time of Flight (ToF) sensor. Here, the sensor uses infrared signals to an incident on objects and records the reflected signals to gauge the object’s dimension and other factors.
The 3D sensing ToF sensors will help improve AR effects on the 2020 iPhone including sophisticated bokeh blur on portraits. This will outsmart the capabilities of the TrueDepth Camera system that was used earlier. This should improve facial recognition on 2020 iPhones from 25 to 50 centimeters on Face ID to 15-feets.
2020 Apple iPhone SE 2
I heard the question “Should I wait for iPhone SE 2?” on a popular forum and I was like, yes. The iPhone SE 2 will be a great ‘affordable’ device that was earlier rumored, then shelved, and currently, revived with the production to commence this February.
According to the Barclays report, the 2020 iPhone SE 2 will feature a 4.7-inch LCD panel derived from iPhone 8 and will have a screen resolution of 730 x 1334 pixels. The device will although be based on iPhone 8, but it will get 2019’s Apple A13 Bionic chip along with Touch ID (as Face ID will be expensive). Per Ming-Chi Kuo, the device will be bumped to 3GB of RAM and storage options of 64/128GB that will be available when the device arrives sometime next year.
The 2020 iPhone SE 2 price is speculated to be around $399 which is roughly INR 29K in India which by far is the lowest when compared to any flagship iPhones so far. We are still months away from the release which means there is still a lot to change in-between. Stay tuned on TechTantrum and we will keep you informed as always.
