Xiaomi is definitely working on the successor to April 2018 released Black Shark which is the company’s first-ever game oriented machine with 8GB RAM and Snapdragon 845 octa-core processor. Few months later, we saw a boasted Xiaomi Black Shark Helo with a Snapdragon 845 processor with as much as 10GB RAM and Android 8.0 Oreo onboard.
If you are waiting for the successor to Black Shark, you might not have to wait since a post on Weibo reveals that a game smartphone is in works. Based on the timeline Xiaomi has followed with these devices, it is safe to consider that the successor Black Shark 2 will launch sometime in March or April this year.
To shed light on its predecessor, Xiaomi Black Shark was launched in April 2018 with a 5.99-inch FHD+ display. The device featured a dual 12+20MP sensors with f/1.8 (both), 1.25micrometer and 1.0micrometer pixel size and finally, a 2x optical zoom capability to the latter while a decent 20MP sensor with 1.0micrometer pixel size and an aperture of f/2.2 adds a zing to the device’s camera capability. As said, it sported SDM845 with Adreno 630 coupled with 6/8GB RAM and 64/128GB giving it an edge over a plethora of other devices.
Soon, Xiaomi decided to roll out an enhanced version of Black Shark that was given the moniker as Xiaomi Black Shark Helo which had a slightly larger 6.01-inch FHD+ display with SDM845 octa-core with Adreno 630 GPU and finally, a 6/8/10GB RAM variants with 128/256GB of internal storage.
Unfortunately, we don’t know much about the upcoming gaming smartphone. We know that it managed to pull off 3,494 points in single-core and 11,149 points on multi-core test on Geekbench 4.0 which provides a rough estimate about its prowess over the previous model. Note that the upcoming Black Shark 2 will feature Snapdragon 855 SoC with 8GB RAM and an Android 9 Pie OS under the hood making it a stunning prospect to look for.
As of now, the estimated date of release is sometime between March and April since Xiaomi hasn’t confirmed much about the specs, release date, etc.
