Xiaomi launched its Mi Smart Band 4 fitness band in June without NFC and a microphone. However, it’s Chinese variant Mi Band 4 has both the features on-board and that is where the latter is seeing a huge jump in the sales chart with an over one-millionth unit sold in just eight days. Fast forward to September 18, the Mi Band 4 (global variant) arrived in India at a price tag of INR2,299. Well, as per a report, Xiaomi is working on its successor i.e. Mi Band 5 that will have NFC embedded into the global market thus, allowing users from different countries to get their hands on the latest fitness band from Xiaomi without souring it from China.
Xiaomi Mi Band 4 sports a 0.95-inch AMOLED colorful display and has a sleek and slim form factor that drapes around the wrist tracking everything from steps to the heartbeat and more. It has a 200mAh battery which lasts for days at a stretch which is a relief. The Chinese variant has NFC allows contactless payment simply by hovering the band over POS while it also enables a host of other applications. Additionally, Mi Band 4 has a microphone too allowing users to take calls and more. But these two features are limited to China only and those who want to avail of these features are required to order it from China itself.
However, with the Mi Band 5, users across the globe will have NFC and not just China. Xiaomi will partner with Huami once again for the fifth-gen device as confirmed by Wang Wong, head of the board and CEO at Huami.
Apparently, we don’t know the release date but that hasn’t stopped anyone from putting an estimated date on the upcoming products. The Xiaomi Mi Band 3 was launched last year in May while its successor Mi Band 4 arrived on June 2019. Wang did confirm that the device will launch sometime in Q2 2020 which is between April and June which puts the estimated date inline.
